“Stack Overflow Is Almost Dead,” n.d. https://blog.pragmaticengineer.com/stack-overflow-is-almost-dead/
The author discusses how ChatGPT might be the reason for the rapid decline in questions asked on Stack Overflow, to the point where no one is asking questions there anymore. It’s quite interesting, but it focuses solely on this one tool that has improved developers’ productivity.
I noticed my decline in Stack Overflow lookups three years ago when many large open-source projects moved to Discord and other alternatives. After that, many people began using these channels to get quick, reliable, and helpful answers to their questions.
Additionally, the summarization features of Google and DuckDuckGo have made Stack Overflow less relevant, just as news page summarization has caused users to stay on Google for an overview rather than visiting the actual sites.
It’s sad. I liked Stack Overflow. It was toxic and old-fashioned, but some of the top answers were truly state-of-the-art. Their documentation feature was also next level.
